Growling Frog pro on course for another five years
4 December, 2009
GROWLING Frog Golf Course professional Wayne Rogers has been rehired for another five years.
The former Professional Golfers' Association of Australia education chairman's contract was last week extended until 2014.
Mr Rogers was first hired as the $9 million course’s professional before it opened in 2004. That contract expired on August 30.
Whittlesea Council infrastructure and technology director Neill Hocking said Mr Rogers had been reappointed following an official tender process.
Mr Hocking would not reveal Mr Rogers' salary under the new deal saying the remuneration was confidential.
Mr Rogers' role includes managing the pro shop, overseeing staff and on-course operations and providing training.
Mr Rogers said it was good to be able to continue to be a part of the course after working so hard to establish it.
This included the creation of weekly men's and women's competitions and the establishment of an annual Pro Am.
In 2005, the course was named one of Australia’s top 50 public access golf courses by The Golf Course Guide.
Mr Rogers said he planned to use the next five years trying to attract more casual players.
"I really want to focus on getting more of these players on to the course," he said.
