Course Construction
Not only is the Growling Frog the first golf course in Victoria to be created by Graham Marsh Golf Design, it is the first in Australia to be built using the latest technology in the construction industry. Incorporating 3D technology that includes Global Positioning Satellites (GPS)and an Automatic Tracking System (ATS), this is a world first for the construction of a new golf course.
The innovative technology has been developed by McMahons Construction during the building of Stadium Australia and Colonial Stadium (now Telstra Dome) and the renovation of Royal Randwick Racecourse and Royal Melbourne Golf Club, and has delivered significant advantages to the construction of the Growling Frog Golf Course.
"The new technology has enabled us to implement the detailed Graham Marsh design to a remarkable level of accuracy, with shaping around greens and bunkers undertaken to a tolerance of just +/-5 to 10mm.This is a degree of accuracy that cannot be reached with more traditional methods of construction.
"It has also meant that not one single survey peg has been used in the construction of the course.
"Utilising GPS on shaping equipment, has ensured environmentally sensitive areas have been protected from any adverse intrusions that may otherwise be part of the building of the course" said Bernie McMahon, Director McMahons Pty Ltd.
"The appointment of a full time environmental specialist as part of the City of Whittlesea course design and construction team reflects the commitment of the developer to the protection and enhancement of the local environment," says Graham Marsh.
"The sensitive design and construction of the course has ensured the statuesque River Red Gums and long-established native vegetation have not been damaged or removed, so the course will feel exceptionally mature when it opens."
"Golfers can expect a fully developed course that is ready to play right from day one."
